Simhastha Kumbh
Simhastha Kumbh, the "world’s largest congregation of religious pilgrims" is a month-long festival which brings together millions of people from across India and abroad. This peaceful gathering clubs the religious and cultural features making it an epic experience which one should attend once in their lifetime.
The origin of Kumbh Mela dates back to the time when Gods (Devtas) and Demons (Asura) resided on earth. In order to acquire the elixir of immortality, Gods and Demons competed fiercely in an epic battle during which the drops of the precious liquid containing the nectar, fell on four places – Haridwar,Allahabad, Nashik and Ujjain. To honor and celebrate this holy event,Maha Kumbh Mela is organized every twelve years at the four sacred places where the drops from Kumbh (Urn) were fallen.
Simhastha 2016 will begin on 22nd of April and will continue till 21st of May in the holy city of Ujjain. The gigantic event would be organized in more than 3,000 hectare land and over five crore devotees are expected to participate in the religious congregation. It is believed that on the occasion of Kumbh Mela sins of all previous births are washed after taking royal bath in the holy Shipra river of Ujjain. Drench yourself in spirituality with the soothing Vedic hymns, mantras, drum-beats, bells and flower fragrance. Camels, Elephants, gold and silver chariots of Sadhus(Sages), Sadhus meditating standing on their heads will fascinate you.
